Content moderation APIs, side by side.

The best API is the one that checks the kinds of content you have, in your users’ languages, at a price that fits how you grow. Here is what eight of them publish about each: text, images, video, live streams, Turkish, and price. Every fact about another company is from its own pages, as read on 13 October 2026.

What each one checks

Kinds of content, by API

“Not published” means we did not find it on the company’s own pages, not that it cannot be done.

Scalability and pricing

How each one charges

How to choose

Six questions that decide it

  • Which kinds of content?

Text and images are offered by most; video, audio and live streams by fewer. One API for all of them means one integration.

  • Which languages?

A model is only as good as the languages it was trained on. Test with your own users’ messages.

  • Live, or recorded?

Live streams need sessions that watch a stream as it airs, priced by the minute.

  • What comes back?

A yes or no, a score per category, the box and time of each finding, or a blurred copy to publish instead.

  • How does it scale?

Async requests and webhooks let a burst wait its turn instead of being refused.

  • How will you pay?

Per request, per plan, or free with limits. Work out a busy month, not an average one.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is the best API for moderating user-generated content?

The one that covers your kinds of content and languages at a price that fits. For text alone, a free or per-request API may do; for images, video and live streams together, one API that does all of them saves integrations.

Which content moderation APIs support Turkish?

Of the APIs above, Detectivision, Hive, Sightengine and WebPurify’s profanity filter list Turkish. Microsoft lists eight tested languages for Azure AI Content Safety, and Turkish is not among them.

Which APIs moderate live streams?

Detectivision, Hive, Sightengine on its Pro plan, and Google Cloud’s Video Intelligence streaming API publish it; WebPurify offers it as a custom solution.

Which content moderation APIs are serverless?

All of the ones above are hosted: you send content and get an answer, with no servers or models to run. They differ in price model and in what they check.

What replaces Perspective API and Azure Content Moderator?

Perspective API stays active until 31 December 2026, and Azure Content Moderator retires on 15 March 2027. Our migration guides show the move to Detectivision for each.
